Klamath Blues Society presents check to Badger Run Wildlife Rehab and sets date for next year’s festival.
The Klamath Blues Society (KBS) presented a check in the amount of $625 to Badger Run Wildlife Rehab on November 1st. Badger Run was the chosen charity at the 3rd Annual Klamath Blues Festival held in Veterans Memorial Park on September 18th. Due to inclement weather the festival lost money, however; those who attended were treated to a fantastic show. The foods, arts and crafts available created a fantastic atmosphere for the whole community. Those who didn’t attend missed an incredible day.
The Klamath Blues Society Board of Directors voted to give Badger Run $500 from remaining Blues Society funds. In addition, Becki Sue and her Big Rockin Daddies, one of the headlining acts at the 2010 festival gave a percentage of their CD sales to Badger Run in the amount of $125. The total amount presented to Badger Run was $625. Liz Diver, Director of Badger Run said “The money couldn’t have come at a better time.” They had several projects to get done before winter and she was thankful to the Klamath Blues Society and Becki Sue for their donations.
The new official date for the 4th Annual Klamath Blues Festival is July 23rd 2011. It was a tough decision for KBS to move the fall festival to a mid-summer event. The idea of the date change is to decrease the chances of bad weather and increase regional and local attendance, while avoiding conflicts with other regional and local events. The long term goal is to increase community sponsorships so the ticket prices can be lowered. KBS is confident that the plan and the new festival date will be a successful move for the annual event.
KBS would like to thank all the sponsors, vendors, advertisers, volunteers, and attendees for helping to make the 3rd annual event a major cultural success for our community. We can’t wait for next year’s Festival. Please visit www.klamathblues.org for Festival pictures and merchandise.

Klamath Blues Society Announces Target Charity for 2010 Festival.
The Klamath Blues Society (KBS) is proud to announce the target charity for their 3rd Annual Klamath Blues Festival on September 18th 2010. The KBS board of director’s, after long debates and extra meetings chose Badger Run Wildlife Rehab a 501(C)3 to be the target charity for the 2010 festival.
Liz Diver, of Badger Run gave a great presentation with a description of the organizations serious charitable need. Liz has a vision for the rehab center but struggles just to keep the current bills paid and the animals feed. Liz wants Badger Run to become not only a top notch rehab center for regional wildlife, but an education facility and tourist destination. Other rehab centers around the country have created similar successful wildlife rehab centers to help sustain its operations.
But just feeding the animals is a full time job and financial drain. Badger Run needs more animal cadges, larger aviaries, major landscaping work for safe walkways, money for medical treatments, and food always food.
Located in Keno, Badger Run met all the requirements KBS was looking for in a target charity and Liz’s passion for her cause cinched the deal. We are happy Badger Run will receive the lion’s share of festival profits. Our hope is that the media exposure will increase community awareness of what Badger Run, and the funds we donate will help further Liz’s vision for the center, and help increase her release rates and effectiveness.
Badger Run will be present at the festival along with animal ambassadors and some child activities. For more information about Badger Run’s need visit www.badgerrun.org.

Klamath Blues Society Presents Check to the Klamath Lake County Food Bank
The Klamath Blues Society (KBS) was proud to present a check in the amount of $1,516 to the Klamath Lake County Food Bank on December 18th. The funds were raised at KBS’s 8th Annual Christmas Charity Concert, dubbed “Blues for the Hungry” on Saturday, Dec. 5th at the American Legion Hall. The concert was a phenomenal success. The event hosted four bands, Broadway Phil and the Shouters, from Grants Pass, Close to the Bone, Blind Lemmon Pledge, and Linkville Express. They put on a great show, and all the proceeds from the event were given to the food bank to help them feed the hungry during this Christmas season. An additional 125 lbs of food were also donated by those who attended. Since the food bank can buy 15 lbs of food with each dollar donated, that equates to 22,740 lbs of food for 455 hungry Klamath County residents during this extra hard Christmas season. KBS would like to thank all those that attended, and a special thanks to the bands. We couldn’t do it without you.

Klamath Blues Festival helps the Humane Society
The Klamath Blues Society (KBS) is touting their second successful blues festival. The 2nd Annual Klamath Blues Festival was held in Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, August 29th, and despite the slow economy, the event saw increased attendance over last year’s numbers. At peak attendance there were over 1300 people in the park, and collected data indicates tourist numbers accounted for 10% - 15% of those in attendance.
Despite a few power problems for the vendors, the festival ran smoothly thanks to a dedicated board of directors and committee heads, and a host of volunteers, including an electrician, roadies, carpenters, and a great security staff. There were more vendors, more people, more kids, and a ton of dogs at the event. The make makeshift OSB dance floor was even larger than last year and it still filled to overflowing with exuberant dancers who clapped, whistled, screamed and stomped for an encore at the end of the show. Roy Rogers and the Delta Rhythm Kings were glad to oblige, and played three or four additional songs for the enthusiastic crowd.
The event was a great success for the Klamath Blues Society, the city, and the Humane Society, who received the lion’s share of the profits from the event. After all the bills were all paid, the event made a profit of a little over $4000. The Humane Society was supposed to receive 50% of the profits, but they actually received 65% of the profits for a total of $2,652. The check was presented to the Humane Society on Saturday, October 10th at the new Humane Society shelter Open House.
The Klamath Blues Society would like to thank the following organizations, businesses, and individuals for helping to make the 2nd Annual Klamath Blues Festival a great success. We couldn’t have done it without you!
